It was founded on March 3, 1934 as Sociedad de Orquesta de Cámara de La Habana (Havana Chamber Orchestra Society). The first concert was held on April 8 of the same year. It performed an important task in favor of concert music, updated the Cuban musical environment and disseminated the best of Cuban and foreign creation, and served as a vehicle.
It was an important musical group that disseminated contemporary works of Cuban and foreign symphonic composers. It was founded on March 14th, 1924 in Havana. At the beginning it was directed by the Spanish maestro, Pedro San Juan Nortes who was living in Cuba. The Philarmonic Orchestra had a huge artistic work in the Cuban musical field of the music for concerts. It showed a wide national and international contemporary symphonic repertoire and presented several works in first auditions in the country. It also introduced different national artists in concerts and recitals and in the direction and as soloists.
It was created in Havana, in 1938, as a jazz band by the composer, violinist and conductor Enrique González Mántici. He was very popular in Cuba for several decades in which he performed in different places of the country and also abroad. In the 70´s and 80´s he was on the radio and television and also performed in dance parties in Havana and also out of the capital and made tours in Colombia, Venezuela and Finland. This Cuban orchestra has been considered the one with the highest continuance and uninterrupted coverage in the media
He was born in Puerto Rico on December 12, 1901. Shortly thereafter he moved to Cuba with his parents. From 1930 onwards he developed his formidable career as a journalist and writer, while actively participating in social and political struggles. In Cuba he was a front line fighter and was always seen in the vanguard of the struggle of the student revolutionary movement and later in the advance for the demands of the working class and the people in general. In the years of the decade in the twentieth century he traveled to Spain, first as a journalist and later as an internationalist fighter he gave his contribution to the defenders of the Republic during the Spanish Civil War. His fall occurred on the hill of Majadahonda, Spain, on December 19, 1936.
He was known as the "Star of the crystal voice". He was of humble origins but was extremely popular among Cuban singers of his time. He got his higher reputation with Cheo Belén Puig Orchestra in the radio station CMQ. Working for the radio was perfect for his expression although he performed in theaters and dance shows. His popularity brought out songs like Reina africana(African Queen), Una sola miradita (An only glance), Campanitas de cristal ( Glass small bells) y La clave misteriosa (The mysterious answer), among other hits.
