It was the first order established in Cuba after the triumph of the RevolutionIt was exactly created on July 18th, 1961 some months after the Cuban people had taken the victory in Playa Girón. It was against the mercenary invasion that landed in this south - central zone of the national territory trying to destroy the Revolution. From that moment on, up to now the Order has been given to Cuban or international citizens who have been outstanding in the fight against the imperialism, colonialism or neocolonialism or that have done heroic deeds for peace and world progress. Yuri Gagarín, the first cosmonaut of the world was also the first receiving the Order.

Raúl Gómez García Order

It is the highest decoration conferred by the National Union of Culture. The distinction recognizes those who have devoted part of their lives to culture. Raúl Gómez García was a poet and legendary revolutionary fighter who participated in the assault on the Moncada Barracks. He created the poem (We are already in combat) and also responding to Fidel Castro Ruz's indications, he elaborated a manifesto that was to be made public to the people after the occupation of the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba.

Cuban Orchestra of Modern Music

This orchestra, founded in 1967, was composed of prestigious and talented Cuban artists. Its success was such that it could be said that it marked an important stage in Cuban music in general. The creation of this great band concentrated the best of Cuban musical talent, and some of the most important Cuban musicians of the time were appointed as directors, among them Rafael Somavilla, Federico Smith and the great Armando Romeu. On its music stands were almost all the best Cuban musicians of that time; either as performers or soloists. The Orchestra Cubana de Modern Music made its debut on April 12, 1967 at the Amadeo Roldán Theater.
