Fidel Castro opened the first National School of Art Instructors on April 14th , 1961. It had 4000 students registered, who trained 3000 young people who later joined the National School of Art (ENA). They were the first generation of artists developed by the Cuban Revolution.

 

It was founded on December 2, 1960.  It has its headquarters in the area of Barlovento, Playa municipality, in Havana. In December 1978, the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party agreed to convert the provincial schools into university branches and the National School into a special type of Higher Education Center, in order to train graduates in Social Sciences.
