Parliamentary hearing against the U.S. blockade is held in Cuba

Cuban and foreign deputies are participating today in the parliamentary public hearing "Better Without Blockade", to denounce the effects caused by the US economic siege on the island.

At the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez reiterated that the coercive measure constitutes the main obstacle to the economic development and prosperity of the Caribbean nation.

Nothing Cuba does, he said, will eliminate or modify "the U.S. blockade, since it depends on the internal political realities of the North American nation and its system of government".

The vice-chancellor pointed out that it is the task of the island to denounce in all circumstances and scenarios the effects caused by the measure, as well as to develop its economy, in spite of the hostile policy.

For her part, the president of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Colombian Senate, Gloria Flórez, expressed her unwavering support for Cuba and reiterated the demand for an end to the economic, commercial and financial siege.

Convened by the National Assembly of People's Power, the public hearing will address the consequences of that unilateral measure imposed by the United States against the island for more than six decades and its impact on the daily life of the Cuban people.

Participants will allude to that systematic violation of human rights which, according to the most recent report presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, caused losses in excess of three million 800 thousand dollars, between August 2021 and February 2022.

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz highlighted on Twitter that the event denounced the effects on the different sectors of Cuban society of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government.

On the same social network, Yolanda Ferrer, chairwoman of the International Relations Commission of the Cuban legislature, thanked for the messages received in support of Cuba.

According to information from the Cuban National Assembly, a statement condemning the blockade is expected to be made by the International Relations Commission at the end of the day.
