Che states: “Today we are once again saying goodbye to fallen comrades for the same cause and struggle. It is no different who has fallen flying a plane not conditioned to fly, to those who fell in the Sierra Maestra. It's all part of the same battle. The same forces force us to fly in unequipped planes and our technicians have to improvise. The road to town is still hard. And each one of these deaths, no matter how deep it goes, has to be an example that revitalizes our vigor and keeps us on the path to move forward with the people.”

Fidel gave him the task of organizing what would soon be a mass movement in the field of solidarity, which exceeded all expectations nationally and internationally, in favor of the struggle for the liberation of South Vietnam, under the leadership of the Front Liberation Party (FNL), and with the unrestricted support of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, a socialist country founded by Ho Chi Minh, architect of the victory over French colonialism, together with other revolutionary compatriots, under the banner of the Communist Party that he founded.

Throughout his fruitful life he was a tireless fighter for national independence, the country's sovereignty and the cause of socialism.

On one occasion, when summarizing the meaning that he attributed to his own existence, he stated: "... it has been a battlefield, I have never stopped fighting and never, not even in the most adverse circumstance, have I lost faith in the future. That has been my shield and my flag.”
