1922. José Tejedor is born in Havana.

He was a popular singer particularly of songs and boleros. He began in the world of music in amateur programs and at parties held in public places.

During his musical work he integrated a duo with Luís Oviedo. With his peculiar style, nuanced by great emotion, he managed to turn various musical creations into hits.

He passed away in Havana on November 2, 1991.

 

1925. The National Workers Confederation of Cuba is constituted.

It was the work of the outstanding proletarian leader Alfredo López. This organization opened a new page in the history of the Cuban labor movement. He consistently fought for the unity of the workers, for their organization and action, and educated them in the sentiments of proletarian internationalism and the alliance between workers and peasants.

 

1982. The XIV Central American and Caribbean Games are inaugurated in Havana.

The ceremony took place at the Pedro Marrero Stadium and was attended by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, Spanish Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Puerto Rican Germán Rieckehoff, President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization, CACSO.

The Cuban athlete María Caridad Colón was in charge of lighting the cauldron with the torch that carries the Central American fire brought from the Cerro de la Estrella in Mexico, while Alberto Juantorena reads the athletes' oath.
