Apart from being a precursor of baseball in Cuba at the end of the nineteen century he supported the fight for the independence of his homeland restarted in February, 1895. He and some members his team used baseball challenges to collect money to buy defective weapons they later repaired and then sent them to the troops that were fighting against the Spanish soldiers. To honor Sabourin, in June 1953, the city council of Havana agreed on building a monument to this patriot and precursor of baseball in Cuba. The monument was placed in the area of the current Gynecology and Obsdtetric Teaching Hospital “América Arias” popularly known as Maternidad de Linea; located in Linea and Avenida de los Presidentes  or street G, in Vedado.

It is a competition sport that is played with a ball, a glove and a bat. It has two rival teams of nine players. It is the national sport of Cuba and United States but is played in different parts of the world due to its tradition and popularity. In Cuba each competence catches the attention of lots of fans who have passion for these events.

It is commonly known as Maternidad de Línea. It was opened on December 25th, 1930. It has the mission of assisting women in fertile period besides adolescence and pos menopausic. This institution has a wide assisting , teaching and researching  experience. It also assists different pathologies related to pregnancy and the assistance to infertile couple.
