Lorenzo Hierrezuelo dies

He was part of the Duet Los Compadres. There was not such as famous duet as this in the history of the Cuban music.  They recorded countless works and performed in societies, theaters, radio and television programs and made several international tours. He had an outstanding position   in the Cuban musical history due to his work as composer, guitarist and singer. He was a representative symbol of the genuine trova (  a kind of song ) as a result of  the sonority of his sones ( songs with a lively, danceable beat).

Duet Los Compadres

It was an emblematic internationally famous Cuban duet due to the unique way of combining their voices and playing the Son.  They came up in 1949 during a performance in which Lorenzo Hierrezuelo had to replace Maria Teresa Vera and found Francisco Repilado, whom he has worked with in the Quartet   Hatueya at the end of the thirties. The duet was originally composed by Francisco Repilado or Compay Segundo ( as he sang the deep voice of the duet) and Lorenzo Hierrezuelo or Compay Primo. In the performances they played with musicians that played the bongo, the double bass and the guiro. Los Compadres specialized in a country music repertoire, based on the traditional music of the rural areas. The duet remained until September 1st, 1955. After that, Lorenzo Hierrezuelo continued the duet with his brother Reinaldo (Rey Caney). The duet of Lorenzo and Reinaldo aimed at exploring more the son, the guaracha( traditional dance) and all the resources of Santiago de Cuba land and was more dispose for shows. They travelled around 25 countries; Rey imitated the flute and made choirs and  refrains adapted to the language of other countries.
