THE BUST OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY AT LA BODEGUITA DEL MEDIO

The famous American writer, Nobel Prize, Ernest Hemingway lived many years in Havana since the thirties in the last century. Many places keep memories of this writer but and one of them is his frequent visit to the bar and restaurant Floridita, known as the cradle of Daiquiri. Hemingway´s spirits revives in this bar through a life size bronze sculpture that was created by the Cuban sculptor Jose Villa.

The statue is on one side of the bar resting on it. It was where the novelist used to drink a great amount of Daiquiri, a drink which was his favorite one. The literary man bronze sculpture weights 3000 kilograms and has a metal book and pair of glasses in front of it. There is also a real Daiquiri drink, which is changed every day as a constant tribute to his likes. The work was unveiled on October 27th, 2003. A picture exhibition was organized for the occasion, with the particular touch of the artist. The famous sculptor Rafael Gómez and the artistic foundry workers Luis Álvarez y Javier Trutié also worked with the artist.
