Rita Longa Aróstegui is born in Havana

Her work can be seen in several places in our country. The Antilles Fountain, in Las Tunas, is among her outstanding works. The Family Group at Havana Zoo, commonly known as The deers, The statue of the Lady of the way  (Virgen del Camino), The Muses of Payret theater, The ballerina of Tropicana and the sculptures of the taina village in Guama in Ciénaga de Zapata. The Gallo de Moron is also among her most popular works in Ciego de Avilathe figures of the Riviera Hotel in Havana and Santa rita de Casia , at the church of the same name in Havana.

Ciénaga de Zapata

Ciénaga de Zapata is the biggest wetland in Cuba and one of the best preserved in the Caribbean area. It is in the South of the province of Matanzas, in the municipality having the same name. It is the biggest municipality among the 168 we have in Cuba and the less inhabited. Ciénaga de Zapata was declared by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and culture, UNESCO, as a Biosphere reserve in 2000, due to its riches of flora and fauna.

Gallo de Moron

It is located in the north area of the current province of Ciego de Avila. Moron is a picturesque Cuban city which symbol is the cock. There is a monument in this city to honor the cock, its symbol. This work was done by the famous Cuban sculpture Rita Longa, with the collaboration of Armando Alonso. .The bronze monument was built on May 2, 1982 and is situated  in a place called the park of the cock. There is a tower with a clock having a device that reproduces the crowing of the cock, at six in the morning and at six in the evening.

Riviera Hotel

Riviera Hotel of Havana was built in 1957and still keeps its original style from 1950. It is a four- star hotel of 20 floors and 352 rooms. You can wash Vedado and the sea from the rooms. Due to its position, very close to Malecón,  this hotel is preferred by foreign visitors. The place belongs to the Hotel Chain Gran Caribe S.A. It was declared as National Monument since April 18, 2012.

Santa Rita de Casia

Santa Rita de Casia was baptized with the name Margherita Lotti. She was a religious Italian and one of the most popular Saints in the Catholic Church. Her name is maybe an abbreviation of Margherita. Her representative symbols are: the roses, the figs and the poppies. 2006. Mercedes Serafina Núñez de Villavicencio Ortiz dies in Havana. She graduated as a Teacher Trainer in Havana in 1936. She started her studies on Pedagogy at the University of Havana in 1949 but did not finish them. She was a primary teacher from 1945 to 1969. Her literary career started from the hand of the Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jimenez who was her friend. She was a poet and was considered one of the most powerful female voices and representative of the lyrics of the 20th century.  Nevertheless her work was not very much seen by the criticism.
