Miguel Coyula Llaguno is born in the town of Regla, Havana.

His patriotic vocation, together with his journalistic vocation, surfaced early in his life. The first accompanied him until his last days, as he served in the forces of Generals José Maceo, Calixto García and Mario García Menocal. He reached the rank of Commander of the Liberation Army. And the second, journalism, he practiced it even in adverse conditions. His works appeared in the liberating press: El Cubano Libre and Patria. He never accepted any type of monetary compensation for his services in the Liberation Army.

José Maceo

José Maceo y Grajales was a relevant fighter for the independence of Cuba in the 19th century who reached the rank of Major General in the Cuban Liberation Army. He was called "The Lion of the East" because of his extraordinary courage and the way he used to participate in the combats. His recklessness made him occupy the first place in the battlefields. His fall in combat took place in the area of Loma del Gato, in the province of Oriente on July 5, 1896.

Mario García Menocal

He was a Cuban politician born on December 17, 1866 in the province of Matanzas. Menocal was President of Cuba for two consecutive four-year terms, from 1913 to 1917 and from 1917 to 1921, becoming the third President of the country. He died on September 7, 1941 in Havana.
