Since very young he was concerned about the economic and social situation prevailing in Cuba. As a member of the Cuban People's Party youth organization, known as the Orthodox Party, was part of group of young revolutionaries who, under the leadership of Fidel Castro, were willing to fight the dictatorial regime. He participated in the assault on the Moncada Garrison on July 26, 1953 in Santiago de Cuba, and in 1956 he was one of the 82 expedition members who traveled on the Granma yacht from Mexico to Cuba to resume the fight against the Batista dictatorship.

Partido del Pueblo Cubano 

The (Cuban People's Party or Orthodox Party) was a Cuban political party founded on May 15, 1947 by Eduardo Chibás. It was, along with the Authentic Party, one of the two main political parties in Cuba before the Cuban Revolution. In 1951, after the suicide of Eduardo Chibás, the party was led by Emilio Ochoa.

Granma Yacht

A total of 82 expedition members led by Fidel Castro left the Mexican port of Tux pan for Cuba aboard the small yacht Granma at dawn on November 25, 1956. After a seven-day journey, they arrived and disembarked on the south eastern coast of Cuban territory, near Las Coloradas Beach, on December 2, 1956.

Moncada Garrison

It was a former military installation that began to be built in 1859. It was initially identified as the Reina Mercedes barracks. During the different stages of the war for the independence of Cuba in the 19th century, many patriots were imprisoned in this barracks, including Major General Guillermón Moncada, who became ill in this prison and died in April. 1895, a few months after being released. Despite his deteriorating health, he devoted himself to the eastern territory to do everything in his power to resume the struggle for independence. It is believed that the barracks or garrison in Santiago de Cuba was first named after Moncada in 1909. On January 28, 1960, after the triumph of the Revolution, the barracks was converted into School Center July 26.
