She was born in Havana on February 5, 1789. She became known as the Countess of Merlin. She wrote several books among which are Sor Inés and Mis doce primeros años in which she makes reference to her childhood experiences when she studied in the convent of Santa Clara. She also wrote about the problem of slavery in the Spanish colonies. Particularly moving was his work related to his trip to Cuba. In this book titled Viaje a La Habana, his love for the land of his birth is reflected when he states: "What more sacred right than to live in the soil where one was born? The only indisputable property of man should be this: the homeland."

It is a municipality in the province of Artemisa. Its name comes from an ancient aboriginal chiefdom named Marien, which belonged to the Guaniguanico people when the Spaniards arrived in Cuban territory. It is currently a special development zone where regimes and policies are applied with the objective of promoting sustainable economic development through foreign investment, technological innovation and industrial concentration in order to increase exports, import substitution and generate new sources of employment.

He was a Cuban politician born on December 17, 1866 in the province of Matanzas. Menocal was President of Cuba for two consecutive four-year terms, from 1913 to 1917 and from 1917 to 1921, becoming the third President of the country. He died on September 7, 1941 in Havana.

 

It is located in the current province of Santiago de Cuba and is a place of high historical significance which has been declared as National Monument. An eternal flame that reflects the memory and the honor of the people to the heroes of the country blazes at the Mausoleum built for the heroic soldiers who felt in the Segundo Frente Oriental “Frank País”. The Mausoleum was built some hundred meters from what originally was the command headquarters of the Segundo Frente during the national liberation fight. It was opened on March11th, 1978.
