It is a musical group that in its beginnings as a quartet was made up of brothers Alfredo, Jesús, Luis and Ricardo Abreu. Founded in 1963, it is one of the best-known rumba groups in Cuba and abroad. At present other members of the family continue the group’s tradition.

Los Zafiros

It was a Cuban musical group created in 1962. Its members were four singers and an accompanying guitarist. Their music was integrated by different modalities, among others, ballad, Calypso, Bossa Nova and rock. Los Zafiros. Cuban vocal harmony group created in 1962. It was part of what was known in Cuba as the filin or (feeling) movement and its music was constituted from a fusion of Cuban rhythms such as Bolero with Doo-wop, Ballads, Calypso, Bossa nova and Rock. Los Zafiros emerged in the midst of a proliferation of vocal groups. Their first recording was made in December 1963. They achieved great popularity both in Cuba and internationally. In August 1965, together with other well-known national artists, they toured several countries in part of Europe, with the Cuban Music Hall. The tour lasted four months.

Luis Plá

He was an outstanding composer, singer and guitarist. He was born in 1921 in Havana. Luis came from a family of musicians. In 1939 he formed a trio with Senén Suárez and Manolo Menéndez, later replaced by Gerardo Navarro (Díaz Ayala). They performed on various stages in the capital, as well as internationally. Among his works are: Jacarandosa, El madrugón, La canción del caminante, Perico sordo, Por mentirosa, La trasnochadora, Copas Amigas, among others of great prestige.

It is the head town of the municipality of the same name located northeast of the province of Mayabeque, the municipality of Madruga has an area of 463.1 square kilometers. It was created as a municipality in October 1976 when Cuba applied another political-administrative division. Among its most important geographic elements are the Sierras de Camarones de Picadura and El Grillo, which are the highest in the province.

International Master

The title International Master is awarded to chess players who are below the level of grandmaster but above FIDE Master. Instituted along with the Grandmaster title in 1950, it is a lifetime title, usually abbreviated as IM in chess literature.
