The Church of the Holy Guardian Angel, founded in 1755, is located on a slight elevation then called Peña Pobre and later Loma del Angel in Old Havana. This church is related to two relevant figures of Cuban history and culture: Félix Varela and José Martí. Both were baptized there, in the case of Varela on November 27, 1788 and Martí on February 12, 1853. In addition, this church is interrelated with the most significant novel of the Cuban author Cirilo Villaverde in the 19th century; in this case the one entitled Cecilia Valdés, since the area where the sanctuary is located was the main scenario where the plot of the aforementioned novel unfolded.

Ignacio Agramonte

Major General of the Liberating Army Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz born in today´s province Camagüey, was one of he most outstanding fighters of the so-called Ten Years War which started in Cuba in 1868. Since he joined the struggle, being only 26, he excelled due to his political and military conditions. After that, Agramonte continued taking part in many other actions until his fall in Jimaguayú, on May 11, 1873.

Ignacio Cervantes

He was born in Havana on July 31st, 1847. He was one of the most relevant Cuban musicians of the 19 century. He created several works during his career; among them we can mention a Fugue and other variations that are an antecedent to the future Cuban dances It is affirmed that Ignacio Servantes achieved to separate the dance from the music for dancing and made it an independent genre, placing it in the field of pure music. Due to his excellent professional career he received several national and international awards.

The artist known as Bola de Nieve was born in the town of Guanabacoa, Havana, on September 11, 1911. His relationship with music began in 1921 at his hometown’s Music School and Band. In addition to being a pianist and composer, he was a performer of indisputable value. He meticulously studied the songs that he would incorporate into his repertoire and transmitted his natural charisma, characterized by originality and playfulness.
