Born in Havana on October 1, 1942. He became one of the most important playwrights in Cuba. He also stood out as a poet, narrator, declaimer, singer, actor, director and also as the author of plays that have enjoyed great popularity. For his meritorious work he received awards and recognitions both in Cuba and abroad.

 

Henry Reeve was a northamerican citizen who came to Cuba on May 11th, 1869. The (Englishman) is an example of the internationals participation in the fights for the independence of Cuba in the nineteen century. He died in a battle on August 4th, 1876 in a land called Potrero de Yaguaramas, in the province of Las Villas at that time.  He was 26 when he died and had taken part in hundreds of battles that had given him scars from several  wounds.  Nowadays the Potrero de Yaguaramas is a National Monument.

It was a Cuban musical duo formed by sisters Berta and Amelia Martí. Throughout their existence they maintained a continuous artistic work through radio, television, as well as in concerts in many places of the Cuban territory. In their work they left memorable recordings, very representative those composed by the musician Manuel Corona.

 

It was created by Decree–law number 30 on December 10th, 1979.It is awarded to Cuban and foreign citizens in recognition of extraordinary merits, which were reached in the creative work or in the fight for the accomplishment and in defense of the achievements and interests of the working class as well as the consistent practice and contributions to proletarian internationalism. It can be awarded posthumously. Its representative emblem is the Medal  “Golden star of labor” .
