It is a neighborhood in Havana. Its construction started at the end of the 19 Century and reached its highest magnificence in the first half of the 20 Century It is now part of the municipality Plaza de la Revolucion. The headquartes of the Direction of Communist Party of Cuba, the Presidency of the Republic and the government Direction as well as ministries and other institutions, important state education and health centers, the media, cultural facilities and mass and social organizations buildings are in this area. 

 

Los Pinos is one of the Popular Councils of the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo.  Since 1837 an engineer who had arrived in Havana, specialized in railroad exploitation, considered Los Pinos as a strategic zone for the creation of recreational and rest farms. In the beginning, the population was mostly made up of Spanish, Chinese, North American, Canadian and German emigrants. In Havana's Los Pinos neighborhood is the José Antonio Méndez Community Cultural Center, an institution that works to bring culture and its different manifestations closer to all residents of the area. This House is located in the area where the famous composer and performer José Antonio Méndez was born and lived.

It was the second village to be founded in Cuba by the Governor Diego Velázquez on November 5th, 1513 and San Salvador de Bayamo was its first name. The place is considered The Cradle of the Cuban Nationality, where the National Anthem of Cuba was sang for the first time. Its urban historical center was declared National Monument on October 10th, 1978.
