1878. The Artistic and Literary Lyceum of Regla is founded.
José Martí delivered a speech at the act of creation of said society, which was constituted by a group of personalities from different spheres of the culture of the time.
Currently, in this institution literary, dance, musical activities and exhibitions are carried out.
1904.Tree Day was celebrated for the first time in Cuba.
The event took place in the Vedado area, in Havana, where a group of patriots, personalities, neighbors and representatives of public institutions met, who decided to adopt that date in tribute to the uprising for independence led by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes at the La Demajagua sugar mill in 1868.
In 1975, June 21 was instituted in Cuba as Forest Day, so in accordance with the date since then, Tree Day is celebrated in the country. The date was chosen taking into account that in that month the rains have begun and the survival of the postures or small trees planted is more secure.
1907. Salvador Cisneros Betancourt founds the Patriotic Board of Havana..
In the war for the independence of Cuba restarted in 1895 he rose up at the head of 12 Camagüeyans, in Las Guásimas de Montalbán in Santa Cruz del Sur.
He presided over the Constituent Assembly of Jimaguayú where he was elected President of the Republic in Arms. He was the only Cuban who held that position twice.
Along with members of his government, he accompanied the invading column, under the command of Major General Antonio Maceo, from Mangos de Baraguá to Ciego de Potrero, in Sancti Spiritus, from where he returned to Oriente.
On March 26, 1913, he was proclaimed president of the Committee for the Abolition of the Platt Amendment.
1910. The Academy of History of Cuba was inaugurated.
Initially, it had an independent character, attached to the Secretary of Public Instruction and Fine Arts. Later it was granted its own legal personality and full civil capacity for all legal purposes. The first president was Fernando Figueredo.
Currently, the main mission of the Academy is the investigation, study and promotion of history in the country, and safeguarding the Cuban historical legacy.
1922. The official founding act of the PWX station is carried out. The Cuban artist Rita Montaner participates there, who later became one of the greatest figures of theater, radio, cinema and television.
The PWX was the first station in Cuba that was inaugurated, although since August 22, 1922, Luis Casas Romero's "2LC" had begun to carry out systematic transmissions.
1930. The La Tropical stadium, today Pedro Marrero, is inaugurated in Havana, with a capacity for 20,000 people. This land served as the venue for the Second Central American and Caribbean Games, held in Cuba in 1940.
This stadium is one of the oldest in the Caribbean. It is currently the main venue for Cuban soccer.
