1864. Antonia Bruna Martí y Pérez is born in Havana.
She was the sixth daughter of Doña Leonor Pérez, mother of José Martí.
In 1885 she married Joaquín Fortín André, from whose union Joaquín, Ernesto, María and Carlos were born.
She passed away in her hometown on February 9, 1900.
1917. The Casimiro Orta Company and the Spanish songstress Consuelo Mayendia make their debut at the Martí Theater in Havana, performing for the first time before Cubans.
In that performance she plays the role of Zobeida from the Spanish operetta El asombro de Damasco, by Pablo Luna.
1935. General Manuel Antonio de Varona y Miranda dies in Havana.
He fought in the three stages of the war for the independence of Cuba. In 1868, when he was only 14 years old, he joined the mambisa troops to fight for the freedom of his native land. When the Little War began with the rank of lieutenant, he joined immediately.
Years later he also participated in the war restarted in 1895. On April 15, 1898 he received the rank of Brigadier General and on August 24 he was promoted to Division General.
His birth took place in the town of Sibanicú, Camagüey, on January 1, 1856.
1959. The small world series between Cuba and the United States ends at the Cerro Stadium in Havana. The decisive game was celebrated by the Cuban Sugar Kings and the Minneapolis Miller of the United States.
The meeting is attended by Commanders Fidel and Raúl Castro, Ernesto Che Guevara, Camilo Cienfuegos and Juan Almeida. At the conclusion of the challenge won by Cuba, Fidel expresses: "More than the present victory, this will be the symbol for the future of what sports will be in Cuba."
1977. The Martyrs of Barbados sports initiation school is inaugurated in Havana by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
In this center, specialized within the national education system, the teachings corresponding to the established study plans and programs are offered, and in addition, emphasis is placed on the development of sports skills and abilities with students at an early age.
2008. The prominent Cuban researcher Helio Orovio dies in Havana.
His valuable texts constitute significant material for those who decide to inquire or study about issues related to music in the country. From his authorship we owe the Dictionary of Cuban Music that collects the history of the music of the Cuban territory. Aspects related to figures, genres, instruments, institutions and periodicals are reflected.
He was the author of several collections of poems, he advised programs for Cuban Television and documentaries for the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry, ICAIC, and wrote various articles published in Cuba and in other countries.
His birth took place in the town of Santiago de las Vegas on February 4, 1938.
2013. Senén Suárez dies in Havana
He had great versatility within the musical field. He was a unique instrumentalist, composer, arranger and director of musical groups, just as he turned out to be a virtuoso playing the tres. He received his first lessons on this instrument from a very young age with Sabino Peñalver and later acquired knowledge of Theory, Solfeggio and Harmony with other notable music professionals.
In his work as a composer he created more than one hundred works in different genres, among which stand out "Mi Bumbané", "La Sopa en Bottle", "I'm a Peasant", "You're Sensational", "My Noble Love", "Guasabeando el rock". and roll” and “March of the Revolution”.
His birth occurred in the town of Manguito in the province of Matanzas on July 30, 1922. His official name was Abdón Senén Suárez Hernández
2013. Elena Molinet dies in Havana.
She excelled as a teacher and essayist. In her student life she graduated from the Interamerican Academy of Commercial Drawing. She also studied painting and engraving at the San Alejandro School of Plastic Arts in Havana.
In her artistic career, she was a founder and member of the National Council of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. She belonged to the Council of Experts of the Directorate of Theater and Dance of the Ministry of Culture. She also dedicated herself to organizing design groups, as well as advising, researching and publishing various works and teaching.
She presented papers at various events, among others, International Design Meetings, V Centenary of the African presence in America, Conference on Heritage and Tourism, Scientific Meeting of Historians and Scholars of Design.
He also lectured and wrote commentaries on Scenic Design exhibitions.
His birth took place in the city of Holguín, then province of Oriente, on September 30, 1919.
