Havana ephemeris. 16 of September.

 1922.  Raúl de Aguiar Fernández was born in the Cerro neighborhood, Havana.

He started very young in public life. He was a member of the Authentic Party.

He was one of the founders of the Cuban People's Party (Orthodox) founded by Eduardo Chibás. He became a delegate to the municipal assembly of that party for the neighborhood of Cayo Hueso.

He participated on July 26, 1953 in the group of young revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro in the assault on the "Moncada" barracks.

Unable to achieve the occupation of the military installation in Santiago de Cuba, he initially managed to withdraw from the place but was later arrested and on July 29, after being subjected to torture, he was assassinated.

 

1961. The premiere of Bertolt Brecht's play "El Círculo de Tiza Caucasiano" takes place in the theater located on Calle Línea between A and B, where the Teatro Rodi was created in 1952. As of April 1961 it was identified as the Mella Theater.

The play was directed by the famous Uruguayan playwright Ugo Ulive and included the participation of artists from the Conjunto Dramático Nacional and Teatro Estudio companies.

 

 

1959. The Dance Department of the National Theater is created in Havana.

In its beginning it was made up of just over twenty dancers, and under the direction of the prestigious choreographer Ramiro Guerra.

With the passing of time, this group has offered a panorama of Cuban music that turns out to be a kind of musical and dance tour, from the times of the Spanish colony, to the present day.

 

1971. José Manuel Valdés Rodríguez dies in Havana.

He attended elementary school and high school at the Colegio de Belén in Havana. Years later, before dedicating himself to teaching and journalism, he had to carry out different tasks. In 1929 and until 1965 he published various works and sections in the newspaper El Mundo. He attended the publication of the Tables and Screen column in which he reflected a large number of articles on cinema, theater and dance. He was a member of the second Cuban Anti-Imperialist League on behalf of which he traveled to the Soviet Union. Beyond his work in Cuba, he also attended international events related to cinema and also several festivals of the so-called seventh art. Among the books he published are the ones titled Bojeo y Penetration del Contraband, Peek at Cuban Cinema, University Reform and Audiovisual Media, and Cinema at the University of Havana.

His birth also took place in the Cuban capital on December 17, 1896.

 

2002.  The Cuban Rap Agency is created in Havana with the aim of having a promoter center that would allow greater development of this musical genre that is widely accepted by the country's youth.

The institution is subordinate to the Cuban Institute of Music. Rap has been popularized by different groups. The Agency has a catalog of groups that represent emblematic projects on a national scale.

 

2010.  The prominent Cuban actress Zenia Marabal dies in Havana.

. She began in the artistic world as a tango singer, which later helped her make her debut in the theater in the forties, in the various vernacular companies of the time. She successfully performed in film, television, radio, and theater, as well as in other recreation centers. For her meritorious and extensive artistic career, she received decorations such as: the Distinction for National Culture, Diploma for the Cuban Musical Theater, Diploma of Merit as a singer and actress upon reaching 60 years of artistic life, National Award for Humor and Artist of Merit of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television. Her birth took place in the Cuban capital on October 11, 1928.

 

2013. Daniel Díaz Torres dies in Havana.

He began his work as a documentary filmmaker in 1975 and shortly thereafter produced almost a hundred editions of the Latin American ICAIC Newscast between 1977 and 1981. His debut as a feature filmmaker took place in 1984 with the film Jíbaro. He later directed a host of other films. He was a professor of film history at the University of Havana and at the San Antonio de los Baños International Film and Television School. He was a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. During his professional life he won numerous awards and mentions at international festivals.

His birth occurred in Havana on December 31, 1948.
