He highlights: “We must speak clearly to the workers and tell them the truths, so that they understand them, so that they see more and more clearly that the Revolution is their destiny, that the Revolution is their life, and that they do not have to be a revolutionary of words, but you have to be a revolutionary of deeds”.

Fidel also detailed: "Of course, the workers have to be the vanguard, and that vanguard has to have a strong spirit, an alert spirit and a great capacity for sacrifice."

Sindo Garay, un visionario | Cubadebate

He was described by musicians, composers, poets and other specialists as a "crazy genius of the staff" and the essence and extract of Cuban music.

He was born and developed his childhood in the Los Hoyos neighborhood in Santiago de Cuba. He received direct musical influence from his family. He did not have a systematic educational training since childhood, he even learned to read and write in a self-taught way when he was already a youngster. He then evidenced the conditions he had to compose songs. As a composer he became very relevant and fruitful. Although he had no musical knowledge, he managed to create more than 600 works, including boleros, guarachas, guajiras, criollas and songs. He achieved chords in his creations that aroused the amazement and praise of prestigious conductors and performers. From the point of view of the content of the lyrics he used a lyric of singular beauty. He was inspired by the Homeland, by the landscape, by women, by love and it can be affirmed that his compositions constitute a faithful reflection of his love for the Cuban identity

He was possessed of a great natural sympathy. He liked to dress in the Creole guayabera, with a black butterfly tie and a jipijapa or beaver hat with a small brim. Upon reaching the centenary of his existence, he stated: "Now that I am 100 years old is when I understand how short life is."

His birth took place on April 12, 1867.
