Havana formally received, in 2016, the title of "Wonder City" when it was chosen by thousands of people in the third annual contest organized by the Swiss foundation New7Wonders. In the official award ceremony, the president of the New7Wonders Foundation, Bernard Weber, explained that with the recognition of Havana as one of the seven wonder cities of the modern world, it became part of global memory "as one of the seven things that everyone on the planet can and will remember.
