World Day Against Tuberculosis to be Commemorated in Habana Vieja Municipality

The ceremony for the World Day against Tuberculosis (TB) will take place on March 23rd at the Diego Tamayo Polyclinic in the municipality of Habana Vieja.

The ceremony will be attended by Dr. Francisco Durán García, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health.

Under the slogan: "Let's invest in putting an end to tuberculosis. Let's save lives", the date will be commemorated this year, which aims to raise public awareness of the health, social and economic consequences of the disease, and to intensify efforts to eradicate it.

Tuberculosis continues to be one of the most deadly infectious diseases. Every day in the world, about four thousand people lose their lives and about 30 thousand acquire this disease, which is preventable and curable.

Every March 24, it is remembered that, in 1882, Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, which opened the way to diagnosis and cure.
