Havana anniversaries. March 3rd

1984.   The outstanding singer Miguelito Cuni dies in Havana,

He was born in the city of Pinar del Rio on May 8, 1920. He began his artistic life in his hometown when he was part of a sextet formed by members of his family.  Later he sang with various groups, but his popularity was achieved with the Félix Chappotín's group. With this group he made several tours abroad and also recorded numerous albums.  Besides being a singular interpreter, he was the author of several creations, among them, Congo africano, Ay mamita, Batanga africana, A bailar con la Guajira, Lloró shangó, Las ansias mías and A ti Benny Moré.

 

1993. Dr. Francisco Lancís Sánchez dies.

He was born in Havana on March 13, 1906. He graduated as a doctor of medicine from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Havana on June 29, 1929. He began his practice in the field of forensic medicine on December 1, 1933 when he was appointed physician of the Municipal Forensic Medical Service of Havana.

His transcendence in Cuban medicine goes beyond the field of Forensic Medicine. His contributions and experiences of many years in Medical Ethics, Toxicology and Occupational Medicine made him an obligatory consultant in these sciences.

For his meritorious and transcendent academic and scientific work, he also achieved the categories of Doctor in Medical Sciences and Professor of Merit of the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana, in addition to numerous decorations, orders and medals.
