Dulce María Loynaz is born.

She was the daughter of the General of the Liberation Army, Enrique Loynaz del Castillo. She evidenced her qualities and sensitivity as a poet since she was very young. She published her first poems when she was 18 years. She was considered the greatest Cuban writer of the twenty century. Fe de vida and  Jardín are found among her works. She also developed a fruitful work in her tasks as a member of several important institutions, we can mention: The National Academy of Arts and Letters, the Cuban Academy of the Language and the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language. She has been the only Cuban woman, who was awarded the Cervantes Award by the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language in the year 1992, due to her relevant creative work.

National Academy of Arts and Letters

It is a Cuban cultural institution founded in 1910during the presidential term of José Miguel Gómez and at the request of Mario García Kohly, secretary of Public Instruction and Fine Arts. The Academy has the accomplishment of promoting the study of literature, music, painting, sculpture and architecture, spreading and supporting the finest taste for art. 

Cervantes  Award

It is the award for Literature in Spanish Language given by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, every year, on the proposal of the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language. It was created in 1976 and is considered as the most important literary award in Spanish Language. It is to honor the work of a Spanish speaking writer whose support to the Hispanic cultural patrimony has been significant.
