He was a Cuban-French historian and demographer.  He stood out for his studies on population and emigration. The selection of his works of greater methodological interest was published under the title of "El Barracón and other essays", which constituted a valuable support for the scholars of the historical evolution.

He began his professional training with studies in electrical engineering, a career that provided him with a good mathematical basis for his later work as a social scientist.  His fruitful and tireless work resulted in numerous publications, while he developed an important direct work with students and new researchers, to whom he transferred his knowledge. His research work was expressed in more than 115 titles that have already been published; 72 scientific articles, 25 books and brochures and also several contributions delivered at international scientific events.
