This date is established in Cuba as the Day of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), as a tribute to the landing of the expeditionaries of the Yate Granma that took place in an area near Las Coloradas beach on the same day in 1956. This military organization has a structure, equipment and preparation that guarantees the fulfillment of combat missions and also allows the employment of its members in activities of benefit to the economic development of the country. In coordination with the people, the members of the Territorial Troops Militias and the members of the Ministry of the Interior constitute the FAR, as they are commonly identified, an impregnable bastion that guarantees the defense of the Revolution. FAR members have also provided internationalist assistance to other fraternal peoples.

Territorial Troops Militias

They were created on January 20, 1980. They had as antecedent the National Revolutionary Militias that were formed in 1959 when on October 26 Fidel called on the people to prepare themselves militarily and to be in better conditions, with the weapons that would be given to them, to defend the Revolution. The current Territorial Troops Militias are made up of hundreds of thousands of men and women.
