Arístides Estéfano Mestre Hevia is born.

He was an anthropologist, naturalist and physician who was part of important institutions. Among them were the Anthropological Society of Cuba, the Royal Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Havana; and the Society of Natural History Felipe Poey, in which he presented numerous works of Anthropology, Ethnography, Evolution, Genetics, Mineralogy, Psychiatry, Zoology, which were published later. He participated in research works dedicated to the cases of abnormal and mentally deranged delinquents, as evidenced by his papers on "Assistance, treatment and education of abnormal children" and "The delinquent child", presented at the Academy of Sciences of Havana. He also published his works in the Revista Médica Cubana and the Revista de Letras y Ciencias, as well as in the Society of Psychiatry and Neurology. He died in Havana on September 5, 1952.

Anthropological Society of Cuba

It was founded on October 7, 1877. It carried out a remarkable scientific activity in the promotion of the knowledge of anthropology in Cuba. It enjoyed a well-deserved fame in the scientific world. For the amount of works presented in its sessions, the depth of its discussions and the prestige of its founding members and those who later joined its ranks.
