He was born in Havana on March 19, 1911. For his revolutionary activities he was imprisoned on several occasions. He was imprisoned for the first time in December 1930, although for a short time; in 1931 he was arrested again and remained imprisoned for almost a year and a half, first in gallery number 13 of the Castle of the Prince, then in the Nueva Gerona prison and finally in the so-called Model Prison of Isla de Pinos. There he met Pablo de la Torriente Brau and deepened his friendship with Raúl Roa. After Fulgencio Batista's coup d'état on March 10, 1952, a new stage of struggle began for him. He joined a plan to take over the Columbia military camp, for which weapons were gathered and uniforms were made, but the action could not be carried out. Batista's repressive organs began to pursue him until he was arrested on November 23, 1953. In the Military Intelligence Service he was tortured so that he would reveal the names of his comrades, their plans and hiding places; but he heroically resisted. Then the henchmen, seeing that they could not obtain any information, decided to assassinate him.

Military Intelligence Service

It was a Cuban military institution created in 1934 with the objective of monitoring the internal movements of the army or others that affected the security of the state and public institutions. After the 1952 coup d'état, it became one of the main repressive bodies at the service of the dictatorship. After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution it was dissolved on February 18, 1959.
