She became an outstanding actress and program director. Throughout her long career she played many characters, both on radio and television. She especially became famous for the character of Rita Pranganillo in the humorous program Alegrías de Sobremesa, in which she acted for more than 40 years. She became so popular with this character that for many of her admirers, and even close friends, she was more than Marta, she was simply Rita. She was president of the School for the training of actors, member and president of acting juries of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, as well as of Film, Radio and Television Festivals.  For Radio Progreso, in March 2009, she performed a radio drama written by Heriberto García Pereira especially for her for her 90th birthday and more than 70 years since her stage debut. She passed away in Havana on January 21, 2015.
