He was born on January 29, 1925 in the town of Unión de Reyes in the province of Matanzas. He was an outstanding playwright, critic and writer. He was a theater director and participated in festivals and other events related to that artistic manifestation and culture in general. About how he conceived his work in the field of theater, he said that it is a search and thought. And he said: "It is not just standing on a stage to say words. It has to have a strong background behind it". He also said: "All my plays are dedicated to delve into the human being and his inner conflicts. I have a plastic vision different from that of other authors. My works cross a line of poverty. They are not sumptuous; they are flesh and blood characters. I go more to the internal than to the external. I think a writer is like God, he creates his characters, his beings. There is always something of me in my characters. My points of view. It is the author's voice, my way of seeing the world". He was awarded the National Literature Prize and the National Theater Prize.

Unión de Reyes Village

It owes its name to a tavern owned by some brothers with the surname Reyes. It is currently a Popular Council of the municipality of the same name in the province of Matanzas.
