Eduardo Dimas Fernández passed away.

He was born in the town of Santa Cruz Del Norte, today Mayabeque province, on March 25, 1941. A journalist by profession, he was constantly active both on radio and television. As a political analyst, he was a regular presence in the Buenos Dias magazine, in the news program Mesa Redonda and on the airwaves of Radio Rebelde. For his meritorious work he received important awards, among them, the National Television Award. Another important function in his life was to be an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Communication of the University of Havana and the José Martí International Institute of Journalism.

Mayabeque Province

It is one of the youngest Cuban provinces that emerged as of January 9, 2011. The provincial capital is San José de Las Lajas. Along with the provinces of Havana, Camagüey and Guantánamo, it has a name of aboriginal origin, which reinforces the Cuban cultural tradition.

Faculty of Social Communication

It is one of the faculties of the University of Havana that includes the careers of Journalism, Social Communication and Computer Science. This institution favors the development of information and communication as strategic resources to meet the demands of the professional and social environment, and to contribute to the advancement of the country.  In later years, first the School of Journalism and then the Faculty of Journalism of the University of Havana were created, which in the 1990s expanded its profile to the areas of Social Communication and Computer Sciences.

José Martí International Institute of Journalism

It was created on October 17, 1983. It is an institution that belongs to the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC). Its mission is to contribute to the professional development of Cuban and Latin American journalists. It is nourished by academic programs of interdisciplinary character, the exchange of experiences and the debate of the main topics in the journalistic sector and society.
