Born on April 27, 1887 in San Antonio de las Vueltas, in the province of Las Villas, she began performing when she was only five years old in her father's circus. In the journey through the most remote places of our country with that circus troupe, the interpretative talent of this singular woman was formed and developed. In the initial stage she performed monologues and sang cuplets or dressed up as a little black man to participate in some sainetes (one-act farces). Her essential characteristic in the scene was her ductility since she represented the same as a black professor, a Galician woman, a young lady, a gossiping old woman or a rascal. With great commitment and respect for her audience, she always went on stage to give everything she had, even overcoming illness and family problems. She once said: "I have always tried to do my best, that's why I don't take time into account. Artists often have no age, because we have an angel."
