The engineer Francisco de Albear y Fernández dies.

He took part in more than 82 works among projects and constructions, as well as in repairs.  He was distinguished in the construction of “Puentes Grandes" over the river Almendares and the “Puente de Alcoy" over the river Luyanó, roads, paths, streets and avenues as Concha, Vives, Cristina, and Luyanó, in Havana. His work made the Spanish authorities and the population be interested in assisting urgent needs of the Island. He was the creator of the of the Aqueduct of Havana, that was named after him.  

The river Luyanó

It flows along 13 kilometers and rises in the limits of the municipality of San Miguel Del Padrón with the municipality of Cotorro. Its course flows to the northwest and comes out onto the Bay of Havana.

It is the Consejo Popular of the Municipality10 DE Octubre in the province of Havana.  

Aqueduct of Havana

It is an engineering work built in the second half of the 19th century and is known as the aqueduct of Albear. It is considered one of the most outstanding worldwide works of its time and also one of the seven wonders of the Cuban civil engineering. The aqueduct was given the condition of National Monument. It is still supplying water to the city.
