Dr. Enrique Acosta Mayor dies in Havana.

In his work as a man of science, he was head of the Anti-Rabies Vaccination Department in the laboratory of the Medical and Surgical Chronicle of Havana. Together with Dr. Juan Nicolás Dávalos, he created the anti-diphtheria serum of recognized quality. He was director of the laboratory for more than 25 years.

He was an outstanding bacteriologist who made important studies and discoveries in medicine. He contributed to the development of the diphtheria vaccine, isolated and identified different pathogenic microorganisms and obtained sera against tetanus and typhoid fever. He was called "the wise man who dreamed of bacteria". He was born in Sabanilla Del Comendador, present town "Juan Gualberto Gómez," Unión de Reyes, belonging to the province of Matanzas, on November 6, 1857.
