A farewell event was done at Plaza de la Revolución “José Martí” for the victims of the sabotage to the Cubana de Aviacion airplane that crashed in the sea near Barbados. It caused 73 peoples´ dead, there was a group of young Cuban sportspeople among them; who had taken part in a fencing competition abroad. The highest leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro stated in his speech”! Our athletes, who died in the prime of their lives and faculties will be eternal champions in our hearts; their gold medals won’t be in the deep of the ocean, they arise like suns without spots and as symbols in the Cuban sky; they won’t have the honor of the Olympics but they have risen to the beautiful Olympus of the martyrs of their homeland, forever!

At the end of his words he declared: We cannot say that pain is shared. The pain multiplies. Millions of Cubans cry today together with the loved ones of the victims of the abominable crime. ! And when a strong and virile people cry, injustice trembles!
