The first opera performance was made in Cuba at the Teatro Coliseo de La Habana.

 It was named Didone Abbandonata and had a libretto of Pietro Metastasio and the music was from an unidentified author. The Coliseo was the first construction to offer theater representations, built in Havana. It represents the first Cuban theater and was opened on August 20th, 1775. Felipe Fondesviela y Ondeano, Marqués de la Torre had the initiative of creating this theater.

He was a Spanish military man and Captain General of Cuba since 1771 to 1777. During his term of office he finished the construction of the Castillo de Atarés and La Cabaña Fortress and started the Castillo Del Príncipe. He organized the farm and income system, improving the urban conditions of the big cities, street lighting, paving and public health. The Coliseo, called El Principal, and was opened during his mandate as well as the Alameda de Paula. It was the first theater of Havana, made up of masonry and wood.
