Roberto Pavón Tamayo passes away.

In his political career he participated in the clandestine struggle against the Batista dictatorship, for which he was imprisoned. He began to work as a journalist in the weekly Surco and in Sierra Maestra. He played an active role in the former Oriente province in the creation of the Union of Cuban Journalists in 1963. In 1980 he founded the newspaper Tribuna de La Habana, of which he was director until 1985. He then directed the National Information Agency (AIN) from 1986 to 2000. Subsequently, before retiring, he worked as a member of the Communications team of the Union of Cuban Journalists and was a contributor to Prensa Latina. He fulfilled an internationalist mission in Angola, where he was a member of the Board of Directors of Verde Olivo Internacionalista. He also worked as a diplomat at the Cuban embassy in the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. For his meritorious work he was awarded the "José Martí" National Journalism Prize.

National Information Agency (AIN)

It was founded on May 21, 1974. On November 4, 2015, a change in its official name was announced and it was identified as Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN). It provides cable news services 24 hours a day every day in Spanish and other languages.
