Born in the city of Cienfuegos, he was the founder, like his father, of Grupo Ateneo and later, together with Isabel and Alberto Panelo, of Cienfuegos Dramatic Ensemble. In his province he staged buffo plays that credited him as a passionate Cuban.  He devoted much time to the theater of the 19th century in his research. He had a contemporary vision for his renovating time, when he staged plays by different authors of that period.  Dedicated for many years to the training of actors and singers, he transformed the classrooms of the Instituto Superior de Arte into his true home.  His passion for Cuban drama and lyric theater kept him very active throughout his life.

Cienfuegos Dramatic Ensemble

It was founded on January 9, 1963, being the first and only Dramatic Center of the then province of Las Villas. Since its inception its mission was to prestige and maintain the theatrical legacy of the city of Cienfuegos.
