José Manuel Valdés Rodríguez dies.

He was an outstanding journalist in the cultural sphere, precursor of film criticism in Cuba. He was also a professor at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Havana. He taught at the Summer School of the University of Havana and also taught at the Manuel Márquez Sterling School of Journalism.

It was the first of its kind in Cuba and the fourth in Latin America. In its classrooms were formed outstanding figures in the history of the Cuban press. The creation of the Professional School of Journalism materialized the unsuccessful attempts that, since the beginning of the 19th century, had been carried out by distinguished intellectuals to create an institution specialized in the preparation of journalists.
