He was born on February 7th, 1909 in the city of Sagua La Grande in the old province of Las Villas. When time passed he was one of the greatest Cuban musicians and composers. He gave the Cuban musical patrimony very valuable and significant works. He was the conductor of most of the orchestras that were created in the main radio stations of our country. He dies after finishing a long play that grouped the score of Amalia Batista, his favorite work. His work is still living in the history of the Cuban music and in the memories of its people.

Province of Las Villas

This Cuban province existed since 1689 as a Department of the colony General Captaincy of Cuba. The territory of las Villas is part of some new provinces like Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila; since the restructure of the geo -administrative system of the Republic of Cuba in 1976. The area of Ciénaga de Zapata was administered by the province of Matanzas.
