Enrique Roig San Martín dies in Santiago de las Vegas, La Habana.

He was born in Havana; on November 5th, 1843 .He completed his first studies at the School San Anacleto de la Habana. He was a precursor of the working class fights in Cuba and a promoter of Karl Marx´s main ideas. He was also considered as the first Cuban citizen devoted to direct the proletariat in its way to class struggle. Besides, he practiced the proletariat internationalism. He worked in different workers ´publications, until he founded “El Productor “, with a first edition on July 12th , 1887.

School San Anacleto de La Habana

It is a local school with liberal tendencies that prepared its students in# modern languages, English and French and trained them to incorporate new ideas, as the study of sciences, among them. He had a telescope installed to give his students a more complete education.
