Manuel Zequeira y Arango is born in Havana.

He was a poet, a journalist, a military man and a government employee. He is considered the first Cuban poet, not in the chronological order (this honor is reserved to Silvestre de Balboa) but in the symbolic order. It is because of his quality and vocational lyrics, and the knowledge of his poetic instrument. He is also called the first poet with a kept vocation. He recreates the decima , with a cultured management, without losing what is so funny a about it.
