Laura Martínez de Carvajal is born in Havana.

Her parents were Spanish living in Cuba. She finished her primary school studies at the age of nine and at the age of thirteen she finished high school, always having excellent marks. Later she registered for the Bachelor degree in Medical Sciences at the University of Havana and in 1889 she became the first woman graduated from that specialty. She attended several medical congresses of that epoch together with her husband. She was also a collaborator with him, in many publications such as: “Notas fisiológicas”, “Observaciones clínicas”, “Ocular leprosy”, as well as in the three volumes of “ (Clinical Ophthalmology). She dies on January 24th, 1941 in Havana.
