José Artemio Castañeda dies in Havana.

He was known in the artistic world as Maracaibo, in correspondence with the title of a musical creation of his popularized by Bartolomé Moré Gutierrez, the Barbarian of Rhythm.

Born in the city of Santiago de Cuba, from an early age he had an inclination for Cuban music. As a composer, trecero and eternal dreamer, he created the Volares orchestra and later joined the Estrellas Cubanas orchestra directed by maestro Felix Reina. But his consecration was achieved when he joined the Rumbavana Ensemble created by Ricardo Ferro and directed by the excellent pianist and conductor Joseito González, where he remained for eight years.
