1920. Adela Robreño

She came from a theater loving family and was considered one of the best actresses born in Cuba. She made her debut when she was five. She worked with the best Spanish actors working in Cuba and travelled through Spain, México, Venezuela and Puerto Rico, successfully. Her characters Margarita in La dama de las Camelias, or her Flora in La hija de las Flores, made her have a celebrity.

It is a novel written by Alejandro Dumas (son) that was published in 1848. It was inspired in real facts of his own life, related to an affair he had with Marie Duplessis, a young courtesan from Paris who had also relations with different figures of the social life she lived in. The novel belongs to the literary movement recognized as Realism. It is among the first in the transition to Romanticism. Years later the composer Giuseppe Verdi created the opera the Traviata, which is inspired in this novel.

1999. Fidel speaks at the graduation of the students of the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana, in Karl Marx Theater.

He stated…” we are living one of the most glorious times of the Cuban Medicine, and I say it with basis, I say it because I am absolutely convinced about that”.

He also expressed:  We have an enormous contingent of doctors, very young, very new, that will have more knowledge each time “

He refers to the doctors in internationalist missions either in a close island or in a far continent.

And emphasizes” We dream on a better world, a fair world, a more human world we have the right to fight for”.
