He contributed to the development of the research and the spreading of the history of Havana throughout his life. He also did a vast work in the journalism field.  He delivered a number of lectures, organized historical features works,  and edited several books. He was the founder and director of the Havana Historian´s Office (Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana).

    Havana Historian´s Office.

It was founded on June 11th, 1938 by the Mayor Dr. Antonio Beruff Mendieta. It was a public institution and an autonomous municipal organization, which would systematize the work done by Doctor Emilio Roig. Havana Historian´s Office was originally in two rooms in the ground floor of the Municipal Palace. Then in 1947 it was moved to Lombillo Palace, opposite the Plaza de La Catedral in Habana Vieja. Today the Havana Historian´s Office is the highest authority for the essential restoration of the historical area (Centro Histórico) of the city that was declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
