1851. José Ramón Emilio de Marcos y Medina is born.

He was one of the eight students of medicine that were shot in Havana on November 27th, 1871, after been unfairly accused of profaning the Spanish journalist Gonzalo de Castañón tomb.

He was born in Asturias, Spain and was a journalist and a lawyer. In Cuba he was the Government Secretary in Santa María de Puerto Príncipe, in the current province of Camagüey at the beginning. Then, he was the manager of the Spanish Bank Section in Cuba and the Public Instruction Cauncelor in Havana.  The supposed profanation of his tomb led to the shooting of the eight first year students of medicine at the University of Havana.
