The Higher Institute of Art, ISA, is created in Havana.

The place chosen to deposit the first stone of the building was the once select Havana Country Club. This educational institution is the Cuban university of the arts. The initial structure consisted of three faculties: Music, Plastic Arts and Performing Arts, with three careers that corresponded to the aforementioned faculties. At present, this institute has four faculties, the initial three and the Audiovisual Media Arts. Since its establishment, this Institute has counted among its faculty outstanding artists and teachers, representatives of the most advanced creative trends and lines of thought.

Havana Country Club

The origins of this building date back to the 1910s with the construction of the Country Club, built in 1911. In that year, a group of Americans and Englishmen living in Havana bought the land of the Lola estate in the municipality of Marianao and set up the Country Club Realty Co. Shortly thereafter, this company built a clubhouse and began construction of a golf course. The club also had, among its main sports, tennis and horseback riding, for which it had courts, stables and swimming pools; this club also had lodging facilities. This club included in its facilities a cafeteria and golf course. It was later enlarged. In 1933 it became the Havana Biltmore Yacht and Country Club, whose membership was nourished by wealthy members of the aristocracy and the national and foreign bourgeoisie with residence or business in the country. It operated until the triumph of the Revolution. At present, the Club Habana is located there.
