Haydée Santamaría Cuadrado dies in Havana.

Since the coup d'état of Fulgencio Batista took place on March 10, 1952, together with her brother Abel, she expressed her repulse to this event. The apartment they both lived in Havana, in the building on O and 25th in Vedado, soon became the venue for clandestine meetings of young people who wanted to fight the dictatorship. She was one of the two women who participated in the July 26, 1953 assault on the Moncada Barracks. Years later she also joined the ranks of the Rebel Army in the Sierra Maestra. After the victory of the Revolution, she was entrusted with the direction of the Casa de las Américas. From that moment until his death, he devoted himself to the development of this important cultural institution.
